Have you ever been going down the stairs; you know the ones that you have counted many times, to only find yourself stepping into thin air? We think we are on solid ground, but then find ourselves tapping our toes in the nothingness looking for that secure foundation. Unless we have our hand on the rail or the other foot planted for balance, that last step can leave us with a sudden, unexpected crash.

I have chosen for years now to get up very early while it is still dark and quiet, to have a couple hours to meditate, read, pray, journal, and just be filled with an assured mindset to begin my work day. This begins with descending the stairs in the dark, the same ones I have confidently walked hundreds of times before… yet, I have learned when I get to the bottom, always stop to pause, grab the end post newel, and find reassurance with both feet on the floor. As I turn the corner from the darkness, there is the faithful glimmer from the gas logs pilot light. This is my reminder each morning “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” Psalm 119:105

The stairs have been spiritual lessons for me, for many times I have connected with God on these steps; claiming His promises for my life. As I walk confidently in the darkness, step by step, He is there. When I reach for the railing, I can spiritually embrace His mighty hand of protection and guidance. The light is just a few steps away. “for Thou will light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness” Psalm 18:23

As we walk into this next week, routinely navigating a familiar path, or perhaps new trails to blaze, let us take moments to stop and pause, feeling our feet on the solid rock – pause again taking thoughtful deep breaths to let the soul (the mind, will, emotions, thoughts) settle into their own foundation of security – pause once again and let our spirit life be filled with unshakable truths from the Word of God that never returns void! “My Word that goes forth, shall not return void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I send it” Isaiah 55:11

Let us walk with poise and certainty that our path is prepared before us. Whether in light or darkness, He is the same and always with us each step of our journey ~
