Are you a HSP (highly sensitive person)?
Being an HSP does not necessarily mean we are sensitive in nature. This is someone who is very perceptive and observant therefore often experiences heightened sensitivity in their environments. This can also lead to added stress and anxiety if not managed with self-care and restoration.
The workplace and school can often be a challenge with fluorescent lighting, constant noise, activity, and even textures. The sensory processing is fully on; like a radar scanning physical, emotional, environmental, and stimuli to the 5 Senses all at once. This is a sub-conscious sensitivity and is NOT a mental health disorder. In fact most HSP’s are very creative, empathetic, have a high standard work ethic and an enjoyable inner life. As a child they can be mis-diagnosed with ADHD and other behavioral labels when in fact they are just very bright curious souls. We would all benefit in teaching these young minds their strengths and helping them learn coping tools at a young age.

Self-care is an absolute need to restore and have the solitude required to replenish and manage emotional responses.
As we facilitate sensory therapies, understanding personal boundaries are a key factor in long term reduction in overwhelm and stress.
Let’s explore some simple, practical strategies to help make you feel more grounded and secure in common environments.
